The Mont Alto Fire Department and EMS Company has been protecting Mont Alto and the surrounding area since 1931. The organization began to meet the needs of the community after the Pearl Fire Department was dissolved in 1916. Today, the Mont Alto Fire Dept. (MAFD) answers 300 fire-related calls and 1,200 EMS-related calls per year.

The Mont Alto borough was incorporated in 1913 and encompasses 0.6 square miles, but the Fire Department protects approximately 70 square miles of land in the area. In 2023, firefighters answered 387 calls, with May and June representing the most active months. In an effort to keep Mont Alto safe, the Fire Department emphasizes fire prevention education as one of their top priorities, focusing on life safety hazards in the home and the workplace. The Department offers a Fire Prevention Awareness program for Mont Alto residents in the Fall, and they also host an annual open house during the month of October (Fire Prevention Month).

In addition to providing fire and EMS services, the MAFD organizes the annual Mont Alto Carnival, which draws thousands of local residents every year and has become a community favorite and a summer staple. In the fall, they host an annual Sportsman Bash, which features food, beverages, and drawings for ATV’s, guns, and even cash prizes. In preparation for Christmas, the Mont Alto Fire Dept. organizes a Toy Drive to spread holiday cheer to local children.

The Department’s mission is to promptly and professionally serve the needs of their community with pride, dedication, and excellence, never failing to deliver quality emergency life safety services with the highest level of integrity, commitment, teamwork, and community engagement. Thanks to the selfless first responders who work tirelessly to keep their community safe, the Mont Alto Fire Department is proud to have served the Mont Alto area for almost 100 years.
